Airliner Crew Reports UFO Over Philadelphia

The crew of a US Airways Express flight landing in Philadelphia Tuesday reported a strange object near their aircraft just before landing. They said the object looked like a flare with a smoke trail.

Runway 17 at Philadelphia Internal Airport was closed for 30 minutes as the sighting was investigated. However, authorities say they still have not been able to determine what the aircrew may have seen. Law enforcement is still investigating.

The plane carried 34 passengers with a three-man crew. The flight originated from Elmira-Corning Regional Airport. The airplane was a Bombardier Dash 8 twin engine operated for US Airways by Piedmont Airlines.
